A four hour bird survey around Bedelands today was delightful with the sun shining and the birds calling. The most interesting to us were 7 longtail tits, 3 nuthatches, 4 great spotted woodpeckers, 3 wrens, 5 songthrushes, 15 redwings, 4 treecreepers, 9 mallards, 2 moorhens, 11 canada geese, 1 goldcrest, 1 marsh tit, pair of bullfinches, 1 male pheasant and 1 kingfisher by the Mill Pond. In Watford Meadow we saw 2 ladybirds, 1 red admiral, 1 comma, 1 bright yellow brimstone and found 2 brown hairstreak eggs. We also saw a small unidentified mammal (mouse like).
