The weekly butterfly survey at Bedelands provided eight members with some surprising sightings.  The first purple hairstreak of the season was seen high up in Watford Meadow and the scarce white admiral near the farm site (not seen for two years).  The explosion of meadow browns produced nearly a record of 800 in the hour or so walking around.  Altogether 17 species were seen.  In addition a large red damselfly was on a lily pad and numerous common blues mating nearby.  Only one blue-tailed was seen though.  The profusion of flowers was a beautiful site with burnet moths racing around.  Join us next Friday at midday for some more surprises.
