Aerial map of Freeks Lane Meadow eastLocation of Freeks Lane Meadow eastGeneral:  This site of 4.8 hectares owned by Mid Sussex District Council, lies to the north of Burgess Hill with Maple Drive to the south, Freeks Lane to the west, Bedelands Farm LNR to the north and a football ground to the east.  It is mainly meadow surrounded by hedges with a small parcel of young woodland.  Part of the site was a refuse tip 20 years ago which now has the remains of a BMX track on it.  The rough grassland and scrub has many species in it as some were ‘imported’ when it was a rubbish tip.  The oaks bordering Freeks Lane are particularly magnificent.  This hedge is 'ancient' due to the number of different plant species found here.  The wood to the north is also 'ancient' as it has been there for at least 400 years.  There is full public access and a public footpath crosses the site as well as a Roman Road.

There are no plans for this site at present but it will be reassessed during 2011.
